author visits

My Author Visit Packet includes a timeline, checklist, fees, author visit request form, ideas for preparing your students for the visit, and other useful information. Please be sure to read through this packet if you are planning an author visit with me. If you'd like to invite me to visit your school, please email this form to author visit coordinator Lisa McClatchy at the email address given.

Fees:

$600/day within a 1.5 hour drive of Fort Collins (Boulder and Denver included). $800/day plus travel expenses for visits elsewhere. Includes three presentations or workshops, and time for book-signing and chatting.

Or, for single sessions within a 1.5 hour drive of Fort Collins, $300 per presentation/workshop, and time for book-signing and chatting.

If your school is unable to afford the fee, contact me and we can try to work something out. I'm especially flexible with pricing for author visits in Fort Collins, CO.

Group Sizes:

Workshops work best with groups of fewer than 30 students. For presentations, group sizes of fewer than 100 students are preferred, if possible. Limit 3 presentations/workshops per day.

Materials Needed:

I'll need a PowerPoint - compatible projector, a computer, and a microphone (if the audience is large). I'll bring my slides on a USB stick. Internet connection and audio are not necessary.

Book Orders:

I ask that you arrange for my books to be sold to interested students. You can do this through your local bookstore, which will usually give a discount, or through Random House [pdf], which also gives a discount. I will provide you with a sample letter to parents with book order forms to send home with students at least a month in advance. If selling books to students is not an option at your school, we can discuss an alternative plan. I am happy to sign books before or after the presentations/workshops.

Paying for School Visits:

For ideas, you can visit here. If you are a school in Poudre School District, you may be able to use Partnership funds. Contact me for details.

Preparing Students for School Visits:

The students will have a much richer experience if they are familiar with me and my writing before the visit. Please note that I'm now requiring all students in my sessions to have read at least one of my books before the visit. You might use one of my books as a read-aloud in your class, or give it as an option for independent reading projects, book clubs, and presentations. Your media specialist should make sure several copies of each of my books are available in the school library, and do book talks to generate interest.

If you'd like to invite me to visit your school, please email this form to author visit coordinator Lisa McClatchy at the email address given. Thanks!
